David Rolls, chief executive officer, The Chamberlain Group, Inc. announced that Joanna Jaramillo, Jessica Matuszak, Andra Robinson, Emmaline Miller and Devon Grochowski are this year’s winners of the annual Duchossois Industries, Inc. College Scholarship Awards.

 

The Duchossois Industries, Inc. College Scholarship Awards honor outstanding academic achievement by the children of employees at Duchossois Industries, Inc. and its subsidiaries. This year, three renewable $4,000 scholarships and two one-year, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to students who excel both inside and outside the classroom.

 

Joanna Jaramillo, daughter of Jose Jaramillo, mechanical engineer, received a renewable $4,000 scholarship to study Communications at the University of Arizona.  Joanna was class valedictorian at Nogales High School in Nogales, Mexico, where she received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, National Honor Society Medals, Student of the Month Awards and Certificates for Academic Excellence. Outside the classroom, Joanna was a member of the science club, the Mock Trials Team and a folk dancer for the Columbian Club. She was also the vice president for the Students Against Destructive Decisions Club.

 

Jessica Matuszak, daughter of administrative assistant Debbie Matuszak, received a renewable $4,000 scholarship to study Biology at Illinois State University. Jessica attended Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, Ill. where she received the Outstanding Foreign Language Student Award. She also served on the public relations committee for the SWOOSH Club, Students with Outstanding Outlooks on Spreading Hope, where she participated in multiple fund raising activities including Shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy, Trick or Treat coin collection for UNICEF as well as book and coat drives.  Jessica was the captain of the cross-country team and on the honor squad for the school band. She is also an active member of her local Girl Scout troop.   

 

Andra Robinson, daughter of Alice Robinson, electronic component specialist, also received a renewable $4,000 to attend Texas A&M University to study Microbiology. At North Garland High School in Garland, Texas, Andra received first place at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) state competition and was the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Science district winner and served as the team captain for the UIL team. Additional school honors include AP Scholar of Distinction, Math Science Technology, Advanced Medical Studies Endorsement, and the MST Science Award. Outside of school, Andra volunteered her time at community health fairs and aided in a local New Beginnings chapter that provides services for battered women and children as well as participating in the Walk for Juvenile Diabetes.

 

Emmeline Miller, daughter of Dave Miller, packaging engineer, earned a $1,000 scholarship to attend Michigan State University, where she will study Zoology. Emmeline was a member of the National Honor Society at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Ill., where she was a member of the school marching and symphonic band. She also was an Illinois State Scholar and received the President’s Education Award.

 

Devon Grochowski, daughter of Michael Grochowski, forge engineer, also received a $1,000 scholarship to study pre-med at Penn State University. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a PSU Trustee Scholarship winner. At Crestwood High School in Mountain Top, Penn., she also competed on the soccer team.
